1. You worked with a lot of artists. Who is the most special one?
TBS: That was Steely Dan. I worked with them on three of their albums. Pretzel Logic (1974, bass, singing), Royal Scam (1976, background singing) and Aja (1977, background singing). It was great to work with Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. Steely Dan is one of my favourite bands.
2. What music do you listen yourself?
TBS: I'm a big music lover, a passionate music freak. My son, a musician himself, teaches me the new rap-and rock music, let's say, the new 'cool' bands. And I like to take him to jazz and classic music concerts.
3. Your father was a musician. Did he influence you?
TBS: My father was a musician his entire life. Music was always around him and I picked up on many things. That's how I became the music lover I am now.
4. When you were 15 years old you were in a band called Tim, Tom & Ron. What was that like?
TBS: At that moment folkmusic was very popular. So, together with my school friends Tom and Ron, we started that trio. We bought the same shirts to look like a real group, we played as much as possible in every club in the neighborhood. We had a great time. Later on we played surf music and changed our name to The Contenders. When that musical style wasn't "hip" anymore, we became New Breed and played Beatles' style music. We opened for Sonny and Cher and Herman's Hermits. We made our first Album (Feelin'Glad) in 1968 and changed names again...Glad.
5. Can you explain how your career changed, when you joined The Eagles in 1977?
TBS: That came exactly at the right moment. I was very busy looking for changes in my musical life. I was doubting if I could continue with a number of projects. It was a logical choice for everyone in the band. Also because of the opportunity for the band to move into another direction.
6. How did you experience the legendary "Hell Freezes Over" concert?
TBS: In fact there was, before the Hell Freezes Over period, another moment we played together. We participated in a video for Take it Easy, with Travis Tritt ( Dec.7, 1993). That was the first moment, after 14 years, the whole band was in one room together. All of us felt like we definitely had to get together again. Looking back, that was a great moment. Making Hell Freezes Over was a monumental moment in our careers. A big success, bigger than we expected.
7. Are you and Don Henley friends?
TBS: Yes, we always kept in touch with each other and I played with him a number of times just for fun at benefits and on one of his solo albums (I Can't Stand Still, 1982). We are more like musical friends. We don't get together for a cup of coffee. That would be a little bit difficult, Don lives in Texas and I live in California. That is a long cup of coffee.
8. Do you think the Farewell Tour will be as succesfull as HFO?
TBS: I honestly don't know yet. The DVD has just been released. But it's going great so far. In America it's number one in the charts. So far so good.
9. Why doesn't Don Felder participate on this DVD?
TBS: I can't tell you much, for legal reasons. Fact is, that it was time for him to go and do something else. That's all I can say, sorry.
10. Do you ever listen to Eagles' CDs?
TBS: No, never. When there's an Eagles' song on the radio I even turn it off. I hear those songs too often. Sometimes i listen to a song of the band from before i joined them. Just to hear if i'm singing it right.
11. You wrote a few songs for The Eagles like I Can't tell you Why (1980) and you sing Love Will Keep Us Alive. Proud?
TBS: In fact I'm proud of my whole career but it's very special to hear one of my songs among all those other great Eagles' songs. I feel very honored when the audience like them and that journalists, like now, want to interview me. It's more than I ever hoped.
12. How about the younger Eagles' fans?
TBS: It's very rewarding that a lot, of course not all, young people come to our concerts. It's great that they respect our music.
13. The "Mighty Horns" play quite a big role on the DVD. Why?
TBS: Glenn (Frey) is a big R & B fan and admirer of "the Horns". We didn't use this style in the past. We decided that if it fits in the song, we use The Mighty Horns. We also used orchestra-arrangements. Listen to Don's song Sunset Grill.
14. Will you come to The Netherlands for concerts?
TBS: I don't know yet when, but there is talk of a European tour.
